The Boys Are Back van Scott Hicks op basis van het boek van Simon Carrâ “The Boys Are Back In Town”. In de film zien we de Britse acteur Clive Owen in een iets mindere macho rol. In zijn nieuwe film “The Boys Are Back” speelt Owen voor het eerst de rol van een vader. De vader staat door het overlijden van de moeder plots alleen in voor de opvoeding van zijn zoontje. En dat verloopt vrijwel chaotisch en met de nodige humor en drama. Ook in de film te zien zijn Laura Fraser en Emma Booth.

Het zit zo: Jack (Kutcher) is een onbezorgde flierefluiter die er zo met de pet naar gooit dat zijn bloedeigen pa hem ontslaat.

En Joy (Diaz) is een controlfreak met een vette baan op Wall Street, die gedumpt wordt door haar vriendje. En wat doe je als je in zak en as zit? Een weekendje Las Vegas!

Het is absoluut geen liefde op het eerste gezicht -integendeel- maar drank doet wonderen en uiteindelijk worden de twee wakker met een trouwring om hun vingers.

Hoe vreemd het ook mag klinken, de ellende is pas echt compleet wanneer Jack met Joy’s laatste kwartje de fruitautomaat laat springen. Een norse rechter weigert de twee hun flitsscheiding en veroordeelt ze juist tot een half jaar samenwonen, inclusief relatietherapie.

De twee vinden elkaar onuitstaanbaar, maar zijn bereid om ver te gaan voor hun deel van de winst. Maar wanneer ze er achterkomen dat als de ander het eerst afhaakt ze recht hebben op de hele buit, zijn ze bereid om nog véél verder te gaan.
